SUSTENANCE DEMAND

FIU).\! TARANAKI. / Hi/ T‘'lcf/nrph—Per Press Association) NEW' PLYMOUTH. February 2. The Taranaki District Council of the Alliance of Labour carried the following resolution:—“That owing to the ! failure of the Unemployment Board to : find work for large numbers of uiiemj ployed in laranaki, and in view of the | expected increase in the number of unemployed through various dairy companies changing over from cheese to butter, thus displacing a large number of dairy workers, and helping to further increase the number of nnemploved and to accentuate tin; suffering of the unemployed, who appear to have little or no chance of receiving work from the Unemployment Board, this Council views with alarm the recent statements made by the Prime Minuter that sustenance would not he granted, and considers Mr Forbes is deliberately flouting the Unemployment Act. We therefore, urge that, either work he found for all of the unemployed, or that sustenance be granted immediately. The Government is morally bound by tbe terms of the Unemployment Act to grant this request and any delay in granting sustenance will be considered by this Council to be a deliberate evasion of the terms of the Unemployment Act.”
