PENALTY MAY EE POSTPONED

WELLINGTON, February 2

It is stated to be very probable that special legislation will be brought lorward by the Government to allow local bodies to defer the imposition of their ten per cent, penalty on overdue rates until the 31st March, when ten per cent., or possibly a lesser penalty equivalent to the bank rate, will accrue on unpaid amounts.
