MATTHEWS’S LUCKY ESCAPE. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, January 31. Captain Matthews had a lucky escape when testing his machine, prior to starting for Comooweal. He saw the rear spur inside the wing crack and immediately returned to the aerodrome. He made a safe landing with the wing crumpled and hanging. A new wing will probably be needed. TRAN-AT LA NTT 0 FI JG HT. LISBON, January 31. The Do.X. left for Modern on the first stage of the trans-Atlantic journey, with three passengers. LAS PALMAS, January 31. The Do.X. has arrived.
