NEW MOTOR CARGO LINER. LONDON, December 11. Hie first of the three new cargo motor ships for the New Zealand Shipping Company, the Otaio, is at I-resent undergoing her trials, having recently come out of Messrs VickersArmstrong’s yard at Barrow. A 50-ton derrick is tinri< j d for use in Nos. 2 and 3 Hatchways for specially heavy lifts, There are 16 Clarke, Chapman silent w j: m-geared cargo winches capaole if exerting a pull of six tons at 100 feet per minute and driven by 48 h.p. motors at 200 r.p.m. Four warping winches similar to the cargo winches hut with 18-in. warp ends on the entbcard side and 24-in. warp ends tm the inboard side are included in tie deck equipment, whilst the Ghvke, Chapman windless is also electri ••••Uy driven, coupled to a 5 h.p. motor mil n!r,g at 350 r.p.m. It will deal wh.h 20-Bin. stud-link cable and can oxera direct pull of 19.) tons at 25 Pe 1 per minute.
