Earl Clarendon opened Parliament with the usual ceremony. The speech dealt with the Imperial Conference and stated is was not possible to arrive at a solution of questions regarding inter-Commomvealth trade relations. It agreed that another attempt should be made consequently the Economic Conference will be held nt Ottawa. A Bill formally sanctioning the declarations of the Conference will be submitted. The general position of the farming community was extremely serious and it is proposed to make advances through a Land Bank secured by a second mortgage on stock and movable assets. The gold industry maintained fairly stable conditions. The .secondary industries are regaining an equilibrium. The revenue and expenditure, necessitate economy, but the financial position was essentially sound and credit good.
