A company of Italian alpine soldiery taking part in manoeuvres oil the Piedmontese Alps, south of Modane, were engulfed in an avalanche. Twentyone of them perished. The company were snowbound I rum Sunday to luesday. The survivors were saved by rescuers tunclling through siiom - , when they found the men were frost-bitten and famished.
