Many friends in the district will hear with regret of the death which took place this morning of Mrs Keller, wife of Mr John Keller of Gladstone and formerly of Kumara. The deceased had been in failing health for a considerable time past and her end was not unexpected. She leaves a bereaved husband, one son (Jack of Gladstone) and four daughters (Mrs Myers of Jacksons, Mrs Wilson of Kumara, Mrs W. Scott of Greymouth and Miss Keller of Gladstone) and several brothers including James and Robert Green of .South Westland. Ihe death of Mr John Martin Kernick which took place at Westland Hospital yesterday afternoon removes a well known mining figure of the prosperous days of Blue Spur. The deceased was a native of Cornwall and was <3 years ol age. He had been in New Zealand 62 years. Far a long time he was engaged iu mining in Blue Spur district, lie was a popular figure and a strong supporter of sporting affairs, taking especially a keen interest in football events in the nineties. A conference between delegates of the AYest Coast Hospital Boards and the West Coast Timber Workers’ Union was hold yesterday at the Grey Hospital, when the following were present : .Messrs J. W. Turley (secretary), Timber Workers Union. The first item discussed was the payment for the half-year expired on 31-1-30. After this had been arranged the question of percentage to he paid in future caused somewhat of a stonewall. The Board’s asking 50 per cent, which the T. W. U. delegates emphatically stated they could not pay, nor could they negotiate for anything more than 40 per cent.
