PASSION FOR DRESS
OTHER’S PROPERTY TAKEN BELLIGERENT YOUNG girl M.ASTERTON,Jan. 24. “This is a very difficult case. She has evidently been carried away by the passion of her sex for dress, and has lost control of' herself, and been unable to distinguish between what was hers and what was not,” said Mr T. Jordan* in -the Masterton-- Magistrate’s Court, when lie appeared this morniitig and entered a plea of guilty for an eighteen-year-old girl charged with theft. The charge, was one of theft of clothing of a total value of £lB 17s 7d, the property of H. P. Hugo. On account of the girl’s age, the police recommended that she lie admitted to probation. The Magistrate, Mr J. Miller, S.M., stated that the girl had come before him in Juvenile Court, but lie had ordered the case to be referred to this court. Tt bad appeared to him that she had not appeared sorry for what she had done, and had adopted a belligerent attitude to the child welfare officer and the police. He had considered sending her to a Borstal institution, but had decided to admit her to probation. “ You are clearly to understand that because of your conduct to the child welfare officer and the police you do not deserve this chance,” said his Worship to accused. “If you don’t behave yourself in the future you will lie sent to a Borstal institution.” The Magistrate sentenced the girl to probation for a term of 12 months, and ordered her to keep away from dance halls during this period. Hp also ordered her to make good £4 damage done to shoes she had stobui. Air Jordan applied for the suppression of the name. This was granted, as the girl was a juvenile when she committed th eoffence.
