PROPOSAL TO MINISTER

T lie question of co-ordination was fuuy discussed ,aiul iiie ml.owing resuimum was passed unanimously:— “I Hat this nieet.ug commas the policy or 00-oidination between the two companies, aim that the various members endeavour to arrange that their opposition services eliminate the running of unnecessary services,” A scheme for further complete passenger transport co-ordination, embracing tin; two principal organisations and tile Railway Department, was considered on the basis of an arrangement between the parties con-
cerning time tables, and the revision of both the rail and motor transport services in the sole interest of the public, with the object of eliminating unnecessary services, waste running, and reckless competition, and or providing for more complete fact ities to the public for information and cookings through a co-ordinated chain of booking offices, whether they be operated by the Railway or Lfie Tourist, Departments or by the motor services. A deputation waited on the .Minister of Railways, Hon -Mr Y’eitch, ami conveyed to him the foregoing proposals.
Mr Voiteli expressed pleasure at (.Tie offer of the two organisations to coordinate with the Department. In his opinion the only practicable solution of the transport problem lay ill co-ordination between the interested passenger transport services. He complimented the companies on taking the first sensible step. The Railway Department would give sympathetic consideration to the proposals and officials would be appointed from the Department to meet the Committee tluiv had been set up by the two motor organisations to investigate the scheme from the point of view of all the par-
ties concerned. The members of the Committee appointed by motor organisations are:— Messrs J. E. Jenkins (Alnstcrton), L. Hayward (Christchurch), J. Aliisgrave (Gisborne,) J. (>. Gallagher (Wellington), A, C. Leave (Auckland), T. 16. Robson (Christchurch), L; C. Byaii (Rotorua) and H. J. Knight (Wellington),
