WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 28th

The Birkenhead Municipal Band, under the baton of Lieutenant J. T. Lighton, will provide a programme for IYA this evening. A euphonium solo, “The Village Blacksmith,” will be played by Bandsman E. Hannah. The vocal portion of the programme will be provided by the New Zealand Four, a quartet of popular male singers who will he heard in solos, dufet.s and quartettes. Jazz songs at the piano by the Joyous Pair, sketches !by The Mascots, contralto solos by Miss Kathleen Bond, cornet solos by Air R. Ohlsen and selections by the tStudio Octet, under Mr Harold Beck, will comprise SYA’fi popular concert.

A,t 4YA, Song Cycle by Liza Lehmann, “More Daisies,” will be sung by the Harmonists, a quartet comprising Miss Mae Matheson (soprano), Miss M. Green (contralto), Mr H. A. Johnston (tenor) and Mr Stuart Falconer (baritone). The same vocalists will also contribute to the supporting programme. Instrumental items will be given by Mrs C. Drake (pianiste) and the trio (Misses Rita Holmes, Moffatt and Judd). Silent day at 2YA.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 29th

Mr Harold Baxter and his Orciie-.t-ral Octet, a very popular combination V .in j ia listeners, will present a wry attractive programme this evening. Miss it ope ASner, mezzo-soprano, will he- heard in a group of ballads, and a new combination of artists, ••TinLoyal Trio,” will give excerpts from tile musical comedy, “The Bing Bo\s aie Here.” Two short lccture-rer'cMs on tne latest recordings tviil be given by “A Commentator,” and Miss Marinn Irving yelociuioiiiste) will entertain listeners with a group of liuniorcns recitations.

2VA’s concert will be given by the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Band and assisting artists. A feature ol the programme will be the rendition of four songs written by Mr To soph W. Carr, of Wellington. He will iii.nself play the accompaniments with Air Allon Carr playing a violin obligato. The singers will be Mr Roy Hill and Mr Binet Brown, two mom be) s of the Lyric Quartet, who, with Mss Veronica MacKenzie (sopran A will provide the vocal portion of the evening’s programme. 3YA’s programme lias been arranged by Miss Nellie Hayward who, with Mis* Kathleen Garven, are well known teachers of music in Christchurch.
