THE GOVERNORGENERAL

RECEPTION AT WESTPORT.

WESTPORT, Jan. 27. The Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe arrived this morning from Milford Sound. They were accorded a civic reception on Victoria Square. The weather was fine, and there was a large attendance. An address was made by the Mayor, Mr J. H. Harkness, and a reply by His Excellency. Lord Bledisloe, in his concluding remarks, urged all the people not to be misled, “Don’t let either you* yourselves, Of* youi* neighbours, be frightened by the cry of over-produc* tion. Don’t believe it.’’ he said, New Zealand had some of the most fertile lands, and a well-educated population, who, with the use of knowledge and commonsense, were capable of making a comfortable living. The world to- * day was not suffering from over-pro-luction, but from under-consump-tion.”

His Exellency presented Robert Edwin Taylor with the Royal Humane Society’s medal in recognition of the conspicuous bravery displayed by him on the occasion of the Tiroroa Tunnel accident in August last. Later their Excellencies inspected the pakihi experimental plots, Duller Hospital, tlie Old People’s Home and the O’Connor Home.
