If you want a taxi, day or night, or a trip to Lake Kanieri, ring ’phone No. 176, Thomas Moore, Park Street. Advt. Remarking that Lake had a number of previous convictions, two of which were for fighting and others for drunkenness. the S.M. fined him £l, with 10s witness’s expenses and 3s car hire. A four-roomed dwelling at Paroa was completely destroyed by fire on Saturday morning at eleven o’clock. The fire originated in the kitchen and soon spread all over the building. Very little was saved. The house was owned by Mr Joseph Marldand, of Greymouth, and occupied by Mr and Mrs Thomas O’Donnell, who were absent at the time of the outbreak. The house was insured for £l5O, and the furniture and effects for £IOO, both in the South British Insurance Company. The trunk and legs of a human skeleton were washed ashore on Thursday afternoon on the Charleston beach, The remains had evidently been in the water for a considerable time, making recognition hopeless. In addition to the three men who were reported missing in the Greymouth district with' in the last six months, viz.. Burr, of Mars den, Rothera, of Greymouth, who was last seen alive at Wallsend, and Thomas Daily, of Greymouth, one man is also reported missing from Westport, having been lost from a ship some months ago. Now that our summer season is at its height, you are all invited to attend our great Summer Clearing Sale, starting this Friday, January 23rd— Schroder and Co. The Progressive Draper.—Advt.
