CABINET MEETINGS

DRASTIC STEPS POSSIBLE. (By Telegraph —Per Press Association) ' AVELLLNGTON, Jan. 26. Members of the Cabinet will assemble in Wellington on Wednesday, to meet the Prime Minister and start the first of what promises to be a series of highly important meetings, Mr Forbes will return from his home at Cheviot on Wednesday, and will review the development of economic conditions in the country since hie departure for England. Important announcements upon questions of national importance are expected in the near future, Cabinet has made no secret of the concern felt at the unexpected decline in revenue, and the. proposals of the Special Economy Committee will reecive early attention. Drastic economies in State expenditure may be found necessary, and the rationing of work on Public Works is spoken of as one of the means of curtailing expenditure.

The Government has decided on the grounds of economy not to take the five-yearly census this year. This, means that no change will ibe made in the Electoral Boundaries, due for revision before the next election.
