RADIO PROGRAMME

(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) SATURDAY, JANUARY 24th. This evening all the YA stations will be broadcasting Scottish concerts, fittingly celebrating the 172nd anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, Scotland’s national poet. IYA and 3YA have each arranged studio programmes, while 2YA and 4YA will broadcast on relay concerts which have been organised by the local Caledonian Societies.

The Auckland and District Highland Pipe Band has been engaged by IYA and will play several numbers dear to the heart of the Scots. Solos will be given by two Scottish singers, Miss Reta McCullay and Mr A. L. McPherson, while Scottish humour will be provided by Sandy Mack. Mr Reg. Morgan and his orchestra will broadcast several fine instrumental items nd the programme will include a lec-ture-recital by Mr Karl Atkinson, entitled,“A Scottish Half-Hour.” 2YA will relay the concert to he given in the Caledonian Hall by the Wellington Caledonian Society, under the direction of Mr George Stark. Three pipers from the Gordon Highlanders and two from th e Black Watch are members of the Caledonian Pipe Band, which will contribute to STTi’s Scottish concert. Vocal artists on the programme will be Mrs Anfta Ledsliam and Mr James Shaw, whose songs will be musical versions of poems by Robert Burns. Tn soil" and story Jock Lockhart will broadcast Scottish humour, while humorous recitations will be given by Mr H. Instone. 4YA will relay from His Majesty’s Theatre, a concert to be given by tbe Dunedin Burns Club. The artists will include The Idlers’ Male Quartet, Mrs Wilfred Andrews, contralto of Wellington, and Mr Arthur MacDonald, baritone.

The Church services to be broadcasted to-morrow evening will be as follows: IYA.—Boresford Street Congregational Church. Preacher, Rev. A. W. Whiting. 2YA.— St. Thomas’s Anglican Church. Preacher. Rev. C. V. ltooke. 3YA.—St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Preacher, Rev. R. M. Ryburn. 4YA.—Salvation Army. Preacher, Major Bear.

MONDAY, JANUARY 26th. IYA will this evening be broadcasting a ringside description of H. Johns—Hector Leckie championship boxing match. Mr Denis Sheard (tenor) who has just completed two years’ engagement with the Humphrey Bishop Company and has broadcast extensively in Australia, will he introduced to 2YA listeners this evening. Mr H. Temple White will he heard'in organ solos. Mr Clement May (elocutioniste), Miss Hilda Ohudley (contralto) and Mr Ernest Short (baritone) will contribute vocal items. The 2YA Orchestrina, under Signor A. P. Trrnla, will supply incidental music.

The programme to be presented by Derry’s Military Band and broadcast by 3YA this evening, will, he another of the very popular open air concerts which are marking the summer months in Christchurch. Xylophone solos will he contributed by Bandsman E. Sheldon. Solos will be sung by Mrs Joan Scrimshaw (soprano), Miss C. D. Shrubshall (mezzo-contralto) and Mr J Sydney Wood (bass). Mr Jack Blair’s items will be songs at the piano and humorous recitations will he given by Mr Jack Darraglt, Mr ClhesHyn O’Connor will sing cabaret songs and bnnjolin items will be contributed by Mr Arthur Hodgson. Introduced into the programme too, will be mouth organ solos by Mr J. Woodham. In these numbers listeners can expect something of a revelation. The vocalists on 4YA’s programme, which will be of the popular type, will be Miss Olga E Wynne (’soprano), Mrs A. H. Ritchie (contralto) and Mr R.. B. MacDonald (bass-baritone) with Miss Ngata Buswell (elooutioniste). On the instrumental side of the programme, trios will be played by Misses Rita Holmes, Moffat and Judd. Piano solos will be provided I by Mis C. Drake.
