FRIDAY, JANUARY 23rd
At IYA this evening, a new combination, the Smithson Trio, will be heard in solos, duets and humorous numbers and .Modeling solos. Miller’s Banjo Quartet will play some very popular marches and waltzes, while Master Desmond Casey, boy soprano, is singing several delightful ballads. Mr Robert McKnight, a very fine artist on the concertina, is giving some well known solos. Miss Nina Scott, elocutioniste, will recite and Mr Cyril Towsey will 'be heard in pianoforte solos. There will be plenty of variety in ihe programme. The White Coons, a novelty instrumental combination, consisting ol banjo, mandolin and guitar, wi.l eon tribute to 2YA’s variety entertainment. Mrs M. Lightbody will sing soubrette songs. Miss Maisie Oakes and Mr Will McKeon will be heard in sketches, solos and humorous items. The Orehestrina, under Signor A. P. Truda, will supply the instrumental music. 3YA listeners will welcome Miss Cicely Auribert again this evening. Tins singer from the. professional stage is a very new mezzo-soprano and in her four songs she "'ill display some of her \ ersatility. Miss Eileen Irwin (contralto), Mr J. Haydn Williams (tenor) Mr Fred Bullock (baritone) and Mr Cbeslyn O’Connor (jazz songs) will be the other singers. Mr Bert Goodlan'-l will provide humour. The first half of 4YA’s programme will the of a nautical nature. Sea chanties will be sung by Mr 0. L. Carden and chorus. Mr F. C. Coopei will sing “Shipmates O’ Mine” and Mr W. Ruffell will contribute “Fishermen. of England.” Miss Isa Thilf, & new radio artist, will sing Kentucky Babe.” The second half of the programme will he devoteci to tlie presentation of the British drama “UP Stream,’’ to 'be produced bj Major Lampen.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 24th
This evening all the 4 A stations will be broadcasting Scottish concerts, fittingly celebrating the 172nd anniversary of the birth of Robert Bui ns, Scot la nd’s national poet. IYA and 3YA have each arranged studio programmes, while 2YA and 4YA will broadcast on relay concerts which have been organised by the local Caledonian Societies.
The Auckland and District Highland Pipe Band has been engaged byjlYA and will play several number* dear to the heart of the Scots. Solos will be given by two Scottish singers, Miss Rota McCullay and Mr A. L. McPherson. while Scottish humour will be provided by Sandy Mack. Mr R«gMorgan and bis orchestra will broadcast several fine instrumental items iicl the programme will include a lec-ture-recital by Mr Karl Atkinson, entitled “A Scottish Half-Hour.” 2YA will relay the concert to be given in the Caledonian Hall by the Wellington Caledonian Society, under tlm direction of Mr George Stark.
Tliroe pipers from the Gordon Highlanders and two from the Black Watch are members of the Caledonian Pipe Band, which will contribute to Sva’s Scottish concert. Vocal artists on the programme will he Mrs Anita Ledsham and Mr James Shaw, whose songs will be musical vetsions of poems by Robert Burns. In song and story dock Lockhart will broadcast Scottish humour, while humorous recitations will be given b.v Air H. In stone. 4YA will relay, from His Majesty’s Theatre, a concert to he given by the Dunedin Burns 'Club. The artists will include The Idlers’ Male Quartet, Mrs Wilfred Andrews, contralto of Wellington, and Mr Arthur MacDonald, baritone.
