Another crowded puolic meeting was held this evening to hear the Railway Committee’s report ot Us interview wicn Cabinet Ministers in protesting against the suspension ot work on the t,lsUorue-W aiKokopu line, hv winch i- J men were thrown out ol employment at a week's notice. Hie Mayor, Air D. W. Coleman, presided over an enthusiastic meeting, and speeches were deliieivd by Alessis G. Matthew's '.representing the Coox, Waikokn, lawn. Waiapu. and Matakaoa Counties), ('. -I. Williams ( the Slicepowuers’ Heel e rat ion and the liarhour Hoard), Hloore (.the Chamber ol Commerce), K. Hall (the Powei Ho.ud) \Y. I.issant Clayton (Civic Railway League), and W. D. Lysiiar and K. S. Williams M.P. Mr Williams, ALP., outlined tin* plans for a visit of I’arliameiitai inns comprising Relorm and Labour Alcnil,ers. to inspect the railway works and the district. 'Hie party .which will include several South Island member* of both Parties, leaves Wellington next Wednesday. i lie speaker, who organised the tour, said that he desired to explain why the United Party members were not asked. The .Minister had already received 'an invitation from the Railway Committee, but. so lar. he had not replied, end the speaker considered it a limiter of courtesy not to ask United members as this invitation had already been extended to their leaders. At tile conclusion ol the meeting the following resolution was passed unanimously, by the large audience.-
‘•That 'this representative meeting <>i tin* people of Poverty Hay approver the work done by the Railway Committee. and pledges its continued support to the Committee in its endeavours to secure the continuation of work on the W'aikokopu-Gisborne section of the Napier-Cisborne line. I* urther. that this meeting recommends tin* Committee (1) to use (*very effort to persuade the Prime Minister and Members of the Cabinet to visit the district and investigate the position on the spot. (2) to consider the advisability of sending another deputation upon the Prime Minister if he cannot visit the district ; (d) to consider the advisabilj tv of having a petition signed in duplicate for presentation both to the Prime Minister and to the speaker ol tin* House.
