RADIO PROGRAMME

THURSDAY, JANUARY 22nd

Two new radio artists for IYA will appear on this evening’s programme— Miss Winifred Johnson (contralto) and Mr lan M. Grant (tenor). Both those singers have had much concert experience. The very popular entertainers, Mr Elton Black and Miss Alice Bonnetto, will he heard again, and instrumental items will he given by the Orchestral Octet, under the direction Mf Mr Harold Baxter.

A special programme to mark the anniversary of the founding of Wellington Province has been arranged by 2YA. Mr L. M. Assheton Harbord. L.R..A.M. and bis orchestra will present an entertainment of bright and breezy instrumental numbers. Tll the vocal portion the artists will be Mis* Kathleen Ferris (soprano), Mr G. Austin Blackie (tenor), Mrs Daisv Basham (of IYA, Auckland) and Mr L. M. Assheton Harbord (baritone); Mr Len. Ashton will supply the humour. From 10 to 11 p.m. Mr Harbord and bis orchestra will supply a programme of dance music. There will bo a classical—operatic programme at 3YA, the vocal numbers being contributed by the Melodious Quartet, with instrumental numbers by Mr W. Hay (flautist) and the Sf’dio Octet, under Mr Harold Beck. The concert programme will be followed at 0.30 p.m. by a session of dance music. ,Silent day at 4A A.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 23rd

At IYA this evening, a new combination, the Smithson Trio, will be heard in solos, duets and humorous numbers and Modeling solos. Miller’s Banjo Quartet will play some very popular marches and waltzes, while Master Desmond Casey, boy soprano, is singing several delightful ballads. Mr R-obert McKnight, a very fine artist on the concertina, is giving some well known solos. Miss Nina Scott, elocutioniste, will recite and Mr Cyril Towsey will be heard in pianoforte solos. There will be plenty of variety in the programme. The White Coons, a novelty instrumental combination, consisting ol banjo, mandolin and guitar, wi.l con tribute to 2YA’s variety entertainment. Mrs M. Lightbody will sing soubrette songs. Miss Maisie Oakes and Mr Will McKean will be heard in sketches, solos and humorous items. The Orchcstrina, under Signor A. P. r l ruda, will supply the instrumental music. JYA listeners will welcome Miss Cicely Auribert again this evening. Tins singer from the professional stage is a very new mezzo-soprano and in her four songs she will display some of her versatility. Miss Eileen Irwin (contralto), Mr J. Haydn Williams (tenor) Mr Fred Bullock (baritone) and Mr Clieslyn O’Connor (jazz songs) will be the other singers. Mr Bert Goodin nd will provide humour.

The first half of 4YA’s programme will 'b e of a nautical nature. Sea chanties will be flung by Mr 0. L. Carden and chorus. Mr F. C. Cooper will sing “Shipmates O’ Mine” and Mr W. Ruffe 11 will contribute “Fishermen of England.” Miss Isa 'Duff, & new radio artist, will sing '‘Kentucky Babe.” The second half of the programme will be devoted to the presentation of the British drama “U'P Stream,’’ to be produced bj Major Latnpen.
