VERDICT OF SUICIDE,

WELLINGTON, January 21

At the Shader Weston inquest, the verdict was:—'l hat the deceased died of a rille shot wound in the chest, selfinflicted. during a period of mental depression.

The position in which B. Class Radio Stations have found themselves is explained by Mr C. F. Wood head. a director ol the company which controls ,‘)/C. A message from Wellingu n stated (hat the Australian Per--1 forming Rights Association had demanded the sum of C2OJ for the right to broadcast items, for which, it holds the performing rights. The message added that the B. Class Stations failed to agree as to the quota which each would have to pay to make the sum up. In reply, Mr Woodhead said: “When the Performing Rights Association wrfite to B. Class Stations asking for £2OO they expressly told us they were only seeking to establish the liability of B. Class Stations, and that the claim lor £2OO was not to he taken as an estimate of the amount they considered should be paid by B. Class Stations. If we admitted their claim we dio not know what they would ask in future.”

Mr Woodhead added that the Radio Broadcasting Company was paying the Performing Rights Association five thousand six hundred yearly, or roughly fourteen hundred sterling for the Station,

Mr Guy Menzies arrived at the Rongotai Aerodrome at 1(1.20. and was tumultuously received by a large crowd. Me flew his plane solo. Mr James, his partner, travelling in one of the two accompanying ’planes in charge of Flight-Lieutenant .Mercer. Waite. .Menzies was reeivod by the .Mayor Troup, Hon. Cob be, and T. C. A. Hislop, sPresidDnt ‘Of The Wellington Aero Club, In regard to the Tasman flight Menzies expressed the opinion that in ten years everybody would be doing it.
