DRAIN OF GOLD

FRO AI. ENGLAND TO FRANCE

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.)

LONDON, January 19

Despite the Fra neo-British conversations cabled on January 18th. the drain on gold to Paris continues. A large proportion of the gold is being transported by aeroplane.

A convoy of four machines conveying half a million pounds worth of gold left Croydon aerodrome for Paris this afternoon.

One of the planes, carrying eighty thousand pounds worth of gold was forced down in Kent, and turned on its nose. Armed pilots then mounted guard over the gold which later was taken by boat and train to Paris.

To-day’s transfer of gold by the Bank of England to the Bank of Franco totalled one million and a half sterling.
