Elizabeth Grace Wilton, 49. married, succumbed this morning at tlie Masterton Hospital to injuries received on Friday when her dress she had 1* *Oll cleaning °with methalyated spirits caught fire.

FLOOD AT KARAMEA. WELLINGTON, January 21. The Secretary General of the Post Office received the following from the Postmaster at Karamea at 11 a.m. ft rained heavily during the night. The river has swollen considerably ana there are still heavy showers. Tlie river rose fifteen inches in the last hour. There are fears of a heavy flood, as it is one hour off high tide and the river is still rising. Up country the waters are over the road near Market Cross. The road is blocked between there and Karamea. As yet there is no water around Ivaramen township.

OIL FIELD REPORT. GISBORNE, January 21. The Taranaki oil report states:— Waitangi No. 1 well resumed operations on January 16. Tlie cementing was tested and found quite satisfactory. 373 feet to 527 feet shale. 527 to 530 sand show of light oil at 527. The core from 530 to 560 showed a few feet of highly inclined sand at base of tertiary formation, new easing in cretaceous formation below 560 feet.
