DISPUTE ON S.S. KANNA

AUCKLAND, Jan. 16

Owing to the dispute concerning the signing^on of the crew of t«e Union Company’s steamer Kanna, the vessel was prevented from sailing for Westport, where she is to load for Auckland. The situation arose at nine o’clock this morning, when only the cooks and Stewards would sign on Details of the trouble have not been revealed. It is expected that the vessel will leave for Westport to-morrow afternoon.

AUCKLAND. January 16

The selection of Mr J. A. Lee os the Labour candidate in Grey Lynn, and Mr F. W. Schramm as the Labour candidate in Auckland East was announced yesterday by Mr F. E. Martin (Secretary of the local Labour Representation Committee), ltoskill is now the only Auckland seat for which the Labour Party has not announced its choice, the result of an inquiry held following the taking of a ballot not having been made public.

ASHBURTON, January 17

R. W. Wightman. who at last election contested mid-Canlerburv as an Independent Labour, addressed a meeting at Methven last evening announcing he was an intending candidate this year as a supporter of the United Empire Party, and approving of bulk purchase proposals.
