PRICE OF WHEAT

(Received this day at 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, January 17. The Minister of Agriculture, Mr Dunn, said legislation will shortly he introduced fixing the price of wheat for local consumption at -Is per bushel.

INCREASED RATES

MELBOURNE, January 17

Drastic action was taken at the Bankers Conference to check further dealing in exchange on London in the outside market. It was resolved to increase at once, the telegraphic transfer buying rate for London money from £llß sterling to £125 and the selling rate from £llß 7s 6d to £125 10s. This is said to be the highest exchange rate on record for Australia.
