A REMARKABLE CURE
To have had his neck broken last November and to have been discharged from the Lewisham Hospital recently is the remarkable experience of Ernest Shaw, a well-known Christchurch jockey, who suffered a fracture of the first spinal vertebra in a fall from Pangolin in the Carnival Week racing. A cure, however, could not have been effected had there been any displacement of the bone or any pressure on the spinal cord, That was Shaw’s second serious fall, he having been unseated from Pangolin in Auckland. It is not expected that he will be able to ride again for a long period. Another Christchurch case having somewhat similar features is that of J. Turpin, who had his neck dislocated whita playing Rugby football lor Linwood against Merivale about three years ago. Turpin is fit and well and has been at work for many months.
