For some time the Minister of Defence has been calling for nominations for local advisory committees under the provisions of the disabled soldiers civil re-establishment act, and it is hoped these will be completed at an early date and the necessary machinery for the operation of the act will then be put in action. COMMERCIAL BANK DIVIDEND. WELLINGTON, January 9. Manager Yardwin, .of the Commercial Bank of Australia announces the payment of a preference dividend of four per cent per annum and ordinary dividend of twelve and a-lialf per cent payable on February 6th. A THEFT. ASHBURTON, January 9. Earl George Dabinett, charged with forging and uttering a Post Office Saving Bank withdrawal slip for £5 sterling was committed for sentence. He was fined £2 sterling for the theft of the bank book. SHOP BURGLED. BLENHEIM, January 9. An amount of five or six pounds was stolen by burglars who entered the premises of Clifford and Rotliwell, cycle dealers in Montwell Road some time during the night or early this morning. Entry was gained through a back door.
