CANADIAN PREMIER IN LONDON
OPPOSITION PAPER’S CIMMENT
VANCOUVER, December 8. Discussing the part played by the Prime Minister, Air R. 13., Bennett, at the Imperial Conference in London, which terminated in a lively controversy with the Rt. Hon. J. H. Thomas, Secretary for the Dominions, in which the term “humbug” figured prominently, the Vancouver “Sun” states editorially“ Premier R. B. Bennett sets sail from England to-day, leaving behind him the mot egregious set of blunders ever perpetrated by any Prime Minister of Canada. His arrogance, his bombast and his attempt to domineer a conference whose tenor of conciliation was beyond his understanding, have affronted all Englishmen and ashamed all Canadians. Even the English Tories will resent his attitude. They might profit by it politically; but, none the less, his unsolicited interference in the domestic policies of England will embarrass them. They have just used him. After his mistakes have served their purpose, they will have no use for him. “Canada is not afraid of England’s disapproval. We do not shrink at England’s .frown. But we do try m 6ur° dealings with England to preserve that attitude of courtesy that relatives should hold towards one another in their mother’s house. And we do know that the economic future of this Dominion is dependent upon the goodwill and friendliness of one unit of the Empire with another. ATr Bennett.. with his haughty, hitter tongue, has sown the seed of Imperial dissension. Even the strongest Tory in Canada will sense a violation of his Imperial sensibilities. ATr Bennett lias blundered. And all Canada must pay for it.”
