A BIG EIRE. (Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at 10 30 a.m.) SYDNEY, January 7. Damage estimated at £9,000 sterling was caused by a fire at Lismore. A two storeyed wooden bidding and two shops were destroyed -and other buildings damaged. When the brigade arrived the fire had a very slight hold but the town water supply failed and water had to he pumped from the river.
MR SCULLIN. (Received this uay at 10.30 a.m.) PERTH, January 7. Speaking at a civic reception Mr Scullin said: —“1 will make way at any moment for a better man if he comes forward. He summed up future policy of the Government in the words:—When we see a step along the right road, we will take it, regardless of the political consequences.
