The Seamen’s Union objected to a certain method of picking up its members, and called all seamen off the Canberra and Ormiston.
There are two hundred and fifty passengers stranded.

Of 1,783 petitions lodged, 1601 were disposed of. 1925 petitions were filed in 1929. The depression in blamed for the drop. MORE STEAMERS AFFECTED. 1 (Received this dav at 11.30 am.) SYDNEY", January 7. In addition to the steamers Ormeoton and Canberra cabled last night the Allara and Chillngoe and Mnldurn will be held up unless a settlement is reached. It is feared that every ship which signs up a crew under the odd system will fie laid up.
