MONDAY, JANUARY sth.
A lecure-recital entitled “Old English Song” will occupy the major portion of 2YA’s programme this evening. The speaker will be Mrs Daisy Basham and she will be assisted by the Ariel Singers. In keeping with the theme of the lecture, the Orchestrina, under Signor A. P. Truda, has selected an excellent programme of instrumental music. With “Oljd GMorv,” the Christchurch Municipal Band under Conductor J. Noble will open 3YA’s pm gramme. Other numbers will be a selection “Knight Errant,” a group of community songs, the, hymn “Nearer My God to Thee,” the fantasia “Normanhurst,” a foxtrot and the march “Old Nobility.” A popular vocal programme will supplement the band items, the vocalists being Mrs E. C. Vaughan, (soprano), Mrs Rhys Morgan (mezzo-contralto), Mr Oliver Foote (tenor) and Mr A. E. Hobbs (baritone) . The Kenz Orpheans, playing popular melodies, will supply the basis of~4YA’s programme and set the tune for an evening of much, variety. The vocalists will be Miss D. Youd (soprano),, M. Somerville (contralto), Dir J. 8.. Hamilton (tenor) and Mr R. B. McDonald (bass), with elocutionary items by Miss Isohel M’Gregor. A trumpet solo will he contributed by Mr W. Tate, and a banjo solo by Mr M’Neil. Silent day at IYA.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 6th. The IYA Orchestral Octet will be playing several verv fine numbers this evening. Miss La II a. Henvus will give a ’cello solo entitled “Slumber Song,” with orchestral accompaniment. Mr Cyril Towsey, pianist, will play one of Gioig’s • masterpieces, the “Holberg Suite.” Mr .A R Chappell, M.A., will give ;i further Topical Talk. The vocalists for the evening are Miss Moi'ly \tkinson '.mezzo soprano) and Mr Arthur Ripley ( tenor). The 2YA Salon Orchestra, will open oy A.’rs programme with the overture “Glory to Russia.” Mr J. F. Monrran.ue of Auckland will he heard in elocutionary numbers, humorous and classical.' The soloists for the evening will include Mr Arthur Coe (tenor). Mr R. J. G. Madman (bass), Ms V E. Britton frontal to) and MRs Christina Young (mezzo-soprano) and Mr Billy H,art in songs at the piano. Mr James Dixon, conductor of the St. Kiidn Band, has! arranged a very attractive programme for Ins men at 4YA, As a cornet solo “The Tost Chord” will be played. The vocalists for the evening will be Miss D. Sligo (soprano), Miss Helen Rov (contralto), and Mr F. Wends f>a«sV. with Miss Fannie Marshall (eloeutioniste). Gramophone recordings will introduce aeeordian, organ and Hawaiian items. Silent day at 3YA.
