( illuminated by Japanese lanters and; candles, while the gaily coloured streamers and flags lent bright splash' es of colour amid the greenery. | Santa Claus was kind enough to at-. | tend for a little while to present the 1 toys to the children who were all | dressed as gay little fairies and , clowns.. j Several speeches were then delivered, much praise being given to Miss Alclntosli, the teacher, for the progress of her school and also for her diligent work for the benefit of her pupils. Air AVvnter, on behalf of the chairman and residents, congratulated her on her work, and thanked her for the trouble she had gone to for the sue- 1 cess of the evening. Air Alatliews, in a little speech, said that, although he had travelled practically all Austra- ( lasia he had never seen a school' bet- j ter organised. j The residents of Okarito and the Five Allies were also thariked for their support financially and otherwise. | The childrens.*.evening was then ter-, urinated by the singing of “For She’s: a Jolly Good Fellow,” and dancing! was then continued till an early hour.'l
