AUSTRALIAN MURDERS
; A COUPLE SHOT. :. ( Australian Press Association) ADELAIDE, December 30. Walter Dali and his wife, both of Whom were middle-aged, were shot dead at Kumorria, in the south-western portion of South Australia. Dali was a farmer. An eighteen-year-old youth, whom Dii.il formerly employed, has been arrested, arid has been charged with the murders. MELBOURNE CHILD MURDER. TRAMP SENT FOR TRIAL. MELBOURNE, December 30. The Coroner inquired into the death of the giri, Mena Griffiths, aged 12 years, .who was outraged and murdered at Ormond, not at Bentleigh as reported by cable on November 10th. After hearing, evidence, he committed Robert.McMahon for trial on a charge of murder. Detectives, with little to help them, arrested McMahon in Sydney. He is an ordinary tramp of ragged appearance, and is a labourer. A bloodstained shirt was found in bis swag. Two women witnesses, also, one man, identified McMahon as a, man who escorted two children from a public park on November 9, one of whom, Mena Griffiths, is now dead. The girl’s mother made a dramatic seeno at the conclusion of her evidence, shouting several times: “Let me get at him!” She was assisted from the. court in a state of collapse. NORTH AUSTRALIAN TRAGEDY. DARWIN, December 30. An aborigine, known as “Smiler,” has been arrested at Daly River for the alleged murder of two other aborigines, “Old Jacob” arid his son, whose bodies were found in a jungle. Their beads have been brought to Darwin as evidence.
