BOY SCOUTS
HOKITIKA MOVEMENT. The Second Hokitika Troop of Scouts and Wolf ’ Cubs Have had quite a successful year. \ There has been several Wolf Cubs (W. Walsh, F. Ballinger, J. Leslie, C. Ross, T.. Ward, H. Andrews) transferred to the Scout Troop. The Wolf) Cubs have since B. A. Seward been ran by the Scoutmaster. But now Master Alex Sutherland lias completed the qualifications for liis Cubmaster’s badge, and will carry the Wolf Cubs on in the New Year. The annual camp of the Wolf Clubs will be held at Lake Kanieri for four days, commencing on January 2nd. The Scoutmaster and Assistant will lie in charge of the camp. The Boy Scouts will not be going into camp this year, as they are touring to- Christchurch on the occasion of the Chief Scout’s (Lord Baden Powell) visit. In the meantime the troop and committee are doing their best to raise funds for their tour. Oh New Year’s Eve there will be a big bazaar held in the Scout Hall behind Mr S. J. Preston’s drapery shop. They are hoping to have the patronage of the public, for it it for a good cause and will assist' in a big event in the Scout movement.
There will be some twenty odd boys travelling and they are working up a display of prehistoric- ambulance. It is a stunt- that takes a lot of working up, but it will be an excellent display for the occasion. The party of Scouts available for the trip will be in charge of Scoutmnste” A. Sutherland and Assistant Scoutmasters A. S. King and D. Nichol. The Rev. Knights, who is an old Scoutmaster, will also be one of the party. The troop has been very fortunate this year as it has been in touch with quite a number of Scoutmasters. On© District S.M., A Agnew, of Dunedin, is now working in Hokitika and has joined np with the troop. He is of very r valuable -assistance to the hoys and it is hoped that his work will keep him here. He has held the warrant of Rover Soout Leadership and it is expected tha-t he will form a Rover Troop in the New Yeea-r. An appeal is made to parents who have boys from the age of 8 to 20, to let thoir boys come along and join, np with the movement. They can be assured that with the squad of capable trained officers they can train the hoys in mnnv branches sncli as ambulance, knot-tieing, cooking, signalling, physical culture, swimming and tracking. Tt is also a character training and the request is made to send the boys along to take advantage of the movement.
