TUESDAY. DECEMBER 30th
The programme from IYA this evening will include songs by Maclaine Mary Towsey (mezzo-soprano), and Mr John Bree (baritone). A Topical Talk by Mr A B. Chappell and items by the Orchestral Octet under the direction of Mr Harold Baxter, one of the orchestral numbers being a selection from “The Gondoliers.” will also lie featured on this programme. The Mclodie Four, Mrs R. S. AUwriglit, Reno and Arta, (xylophone novelties), Mr C. P. McKenzie (humorist) and the Salon Orchestra will furnish a popular programme from 2YA. The Dunedin Tramways Baud, under Mr Charles Morgan, will be heard from 4YA. A well-varied programme will be presented comprising marches, a selection of Scottish songs, a humoresque, waltzes and a foxtrot. The vocalists will be Miss F.. Elmes, Miss G. Burt, Mr E. Drake and Mr F. C. Woods. , Silent day at 3YA. ! WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 31st. For NeAv Year’s Eve programme at IYA, Ernest and Wendy Luks will present “Merry Moments at the Piarlb.” The Trivolian Trio, consisting of piano, banjo, and saxophone, will make their first, appearance at IYA.
They come with a reputation of being masters of their particular instruments. The Mat! Trio will be heard in several songs. Miss Phyllis Gribben, back in Auckland on holiday, will be singing. The second part of the evening’s programme will be devoted to a. special presentation of a novelty programme entitled “A New Year’s Eve House Party,” to be produced by Mrs Zee Bartlcy-Baxter and her company. Dance music will folI low, to be succeeded by a relayed description of the New Year Eve. festivities which always take place in Auckland round about the Ferry Build-
Three new radio singers will appear at 2YA—Mr C. W. Edwards (a powerful bass singer), Mrs. C. W. Edwards (contralto) and Mr A. H. Outtrim (tenor). The soprano soloist, Mrs R. D. Potts, Messrs J. H. Thomas and B. French, a new novelty instrumental duo, will also .appear on the programme. Mi' C. Gardiner will recite two humorous numbers. The Orchestrina, under Signor A. P. Truda;, will play suitable supporting music. From 10 to 11.55 p.m. a dance programme will bo given after which a relay of the Watch Night Service from St. John’s Presbyterian Church will be carried out.
Miss Addie Campbell, who earned the soubriquet of “The Bendigo Nightingale” when she first appeared before the Australian public, will be heard again from 3YA this evening, when slie is certain to enhance the very fine impression she created some weeks ago. Solo and concerted vocal number's will he provided by the Avonside Male Voice Quartet. Mr Jock Lockhart will dispense Scottish humour. There will be selections by the Studio Octet. From 10 to 11.45 p.m. dance music will be broadcast, after which the microphone will be taken to Cathedral Square to let listeners know how Christchurch welcomes the New Year.
Appropriately enough. 4YA has engaged the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band for this evening. The pipers will contribute extensively to the concert programme from 8 to 10 p.m.. and at midnight the strains of “Auld Lang Syne” w'll float over the air aodompanied by the bagpipe music. On the vocal side will be Miss Couper (soprano), Mr J. Simpson (tenor) and Mr L. J. Neilson (baritone), singing mnnv popular airs. Marimba-phone items will be played by Mr Stewart.
