The totalisntor duty (now. doubled) was £655 10s 6d, Divident tax £573 3s Od; States tax. £7B 10s Od; Amusement tax, £69 12 Bd. The Government share in direct revenue from the meeting therefore totals £1376 16s 2d. As the amount given in stakes was £1570 for the owners providing the sport less, a stakes tax of. £7B 10s Od. the public will see bow really iniquitioiis the racing taxation now,, is. To pay the stakes of the meeting, the net amount the Club receives off the totalisntor, some £786, the whole \ of the gate 1 money (over £500) nnd the receipts i from the privileges (about £150) will i4>arely suffice to meet the stakes [ money. With the other expenses to be provided for, mainly cost of nominations and acceptances the Club will be fortunate If it can show a profit on the two dnvs racing of £2OO. These figures indicate the difficult position the racing nnd trotting dubs are in during these times of depression and heavy taxation.
