MOTORS AND FILMS
ENGLISH BID FOR SUPREMACY / AUCKLAND, December 24.
Much* impressed with the progress the English motoring industry is making and its definite hid for the trade of the Dominion, Mr T. 0. List, proprietor of the “Taranaki Daily News,” and ex-chairman of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce, on his return to New Zealand to-day discussed conditions in .Britain, He said recent models of all leading makes were designed to meet the requirements of the Dominion, while prices bad been reduced to a competitive level, Considerable improvement had been effected in the 1931 models, which were a credit to the country.
Another development equally gratifying was the awakening of the people in England to the possibilities of films. The coming of the talking picture had given a trump card to England, which had the talent and the technicians to make talkies second to none. Up till this year they had not realised the advantage which lay in their path. Now they had studios all round London and were turning out really excellent, pictures redolent of English life and action.
