The Governor-General's party to visit the district next month will number seven. The advance of the party will reach Hokitika on the 27th January en route south, and accommodation has been reserved at the Red Lion Hotel. Their Excellencies arrive on the afternoon of the 31st January. After the formal visit here, a week to be spent in South Westland, and on the return journey the Vice-Regal party will be accommodated at Mr Mclntosh’s hotel.

The Black Hand Society are holding a dance in the R.S.A. Hall on New Year’s Eve commencing at 9.30. The Society’s Orchestra will be on deck and will carry on until the ship sinks. Through falling down some steps at a residence in Alexander Street, Greymouth, a child, Betty Thompson, aged six years, a daughter of Air and Mrp Leslie Thompson, of Ruru, sustained a fractured skull.
