A GIRL KILLED. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) NAPIER, December 21. A fatal accident befell an 18-year-old girl, named Hone Hayward, as she was riding a motor-cycle along the Hastings-Napier road at about 5.15 this al'tenJoen. The accident took place where the main concrete road makes a wide sweep round a cornel' by the Tonvoana show grounds. It appears deceased rode into' a bad patch of loose shingle, and tile machine becoming unmanageable, her body struck a telegraph post. She sustained terrible injuries to her head, arms ami legs, and death resulted almost instantaneously. There were :uo eye-witnesses of the accident, hut a. service car driver arrived on the scene a very few moments afterwards. Deceased was a daughter of Mr L. J. Hayward, of Hastings. A BURGLARY. DUNEDIN, Dec. 24. On Monday night the New Zealand Fur Company premises in George Street were entered by a fanlight at the rear. Six furs valued at £250 were stolen. The same evening an unsuccessful attempt was made to enter Eatali rook’s jewellery shop in Princes Street. BURGLARY. EKETAHUNA, December 24. The premises' of W.F.C.A. were broken and entered this morning. A light was seen by A. Leslie on his way to the telephone exchange at 2 o’clock. He yang the police and the local manager of the firm. A Weraroa boy, licensed out in the district, was apprehended. He bad four,sacks of miscellaneous goods of a value of £29 15s. The hoy returned to Weraroa to-day and will appear in the Juvenile Court at Levin. Entrance was gained by cutting a panel out of a back door. IC'HRISTCHUROH WEATHER. CHRISTCHURCH, December 24. Fine weather prevails and the prospects are excellent for the Plunket Shield match Auckland v. Canterbury beginning here to-morrow and for the New Zealand Tennis Championships beginning on Friday.
