VICEROY OF INDIA
APPOINTMENT APPROVED. (Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 21. Lord Willingdon’s appointment as Viceroy of India, in succession to Lord invin, lias been warmly approved by tlie Press and by tlie leading members of all political parties while Indian opinion, as represented at the Indian Round Table Conference, welcomes the announcement. Lord Willingdon is regarded as being specially fitted for the heavy responsibilities of Viceroy of India, by reason of his ten years’ experience in that Empire, and the belief is expressed by the Primes and the delegates from Rvitish-Tndia that the InWal spirit in which he worked the Montague reforms as Provincial Governor, affirms th° assurance that he will be symnatlmtic towards Indian advances to her legitimate goal. Lord Widinedon. who is sixty- r our years old, has bold the Canadian Gov-ernor-Generalship since 1926. He bad previously been Governor of Bombay for five v n nrs, and of Madras for six v«nrs. Before being raised to the Peerag" 1, 0 had been Liberal member of Parliament since 1900.
