MONDAY; DECEMBER 22nd
The Clarion Quartet of IYA will be heard in light vein this evening. Miss Beryl Smith and Mr Duncan Black will make a speciality of a humorous number entitled, “O’Sarah! O’Enery!” Miss Maisie Carte-Lloyd, elocutioniste, will be heard, with Miss Lillian Lugton, in comedy numbers. The vocal solos by Miss Gwladys Edwardes at 2YA will feature two compositions by am Australian composer, Phyllis Campbell, and two numbers by Besley, a new English composer. The other vocalists will be Miss Dorothy Spiller, Mr Eric Rishworth and Mr Harry Matthew, whose numbers will include a Negro Spiritual and the famous “Five Eyes” (by Gibbs). Miss Zena Jupp and Mr Errol Muir will act two skwetches. The programme will include a brief organ recital by Mr H. Temple White and piano ..solos by Miss Madge Darling. Derry’s Military Band (under Mr J. Scott), will provide 3YA’s programme 1 for this evening, assisted by the Valencia Quartet and the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio. It is over two months since the Dunedin Orphans’ Club presented a programme at 4Y\, and listeners will be pleased to welcome the reappearance of this excellent body of entertainers to-night. The club i s one of the largest of its kind in the Dominion, and its array of talent is excellent. A popular programme containing brass quartettes, instrumental solos of various kinds, vocal quartettes, duets, solos and choruses, in addition to elocutionary items, will be presented.
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 23rd
lYA’s programme for the evening has been arranged will he given by Misses Berta Carr/ and Maida Hooker and'their company. These two ladies stand very high in the musical circles of Auckland.
The 2YA programme will feature what has been described as one of the world’s finest Christinas' stories, certainly one of the most human, Dicken’s famous “Christmas Carol.” Listeners will he treated to a dramatisation arranged by the eminent English entertainer—Clement May. The remaining portion of the programme will be. contributed by the Melodie Four, Mrs R. S. Allwright, and the Salon Orchestra, which will also play the music incidental to the “Christmas Carol.”
Well diversified will be 3YA’s programme. Tlie Dulcet Duo (Miss Nellie Lowe and Mr A. G. Thompson) will sing solos and duets. Mr E. A. Dowell, popular baritone, will be beard in three songs. Violin and piano improvisations will be contributed by Messrs D: Mitchell and Bert Goodland. There will be songs at the piano by the Joyous Pair. Mr E. G. Williams will play two, trombone solos and humorous items will be given by Mr Reg. Lamb. During the evening 3YA will re-boadcast the 2YA presentation of the “Christmas Carol.” A ! humorous futuristic fantasia will claim'much attention when presented by the Kaikorai Band at 4YA this evening. The item is entitled “From Auckland to Dunedin in Thirty Minutes. During this fantasia, several selections, characteristic of the four principal centres of New Zealand, will be played by the Band, and four original songs will be presented by Mr Bert Rawlinson, baritone. The music for these songs has been arranged and composed specially for the occasion by the conductor of the Band, Mr Thos. J. Kirk-Buninand. The evening’s programme in general will be a very bright one, Assisting artists will be Miss Clarke (contralto), Miss Ella Hayden (soprano), Mr R. B. MacDonald and Miss N. Buswell (elocutionist).
