RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied 'by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20. From the Auckland Town Hall this evening, a concert devoted mainly to Christmas music to be given by the Auckland Municipal Band, will be Broadcast by IYA. A bright vaudeville programme will be broadcast from 2YA this evening. The Salon Orchestra, under Mr M. T. Dixon, will play selections from light operas and dance novelties. Novelty instrumental items will be given by Mr L. W. Probert and Mr J. Blaclnvooct, the former contributing xylophone solos Jipd the latter piano-accordion numbers. The Lyric Quartet and Mrs Bruce Baker will contribute the vocal portion of the programme, and Mr Len Ashton, the popular entertainer, will be heard in humorous items. Popular singers singing a variety of songs, Titchener humour, clarinet solos, and popular music by the Studio Octet will make up the concert. The vocalists will be Mrs L. B. Salkeld (soprano), Mrs Sen Jowett (mezzosoprano), Mr Leslie Stewart (baritone). The clarinetist will be Mr E. Withers. The novelty pianist, Mr R. G. Napier, will be heard from 4YA. On the same programme, other new artists to appear will he, Mrs P. A. Isaacs (mezzo-soprano), Mr W. W. Holmes (accordion artist), and Mr Frank Benton (baritone). An orchestral octet will present bright numbers, including marches, intermezzos, barcarolles, selections and a slow intermezzo entitled “Bain or Shine.” This particular item of a gavotte type, with a suggestion of a foxtrot, is very modern. The Church services to be broadcast on Sunday evening will be: IYA—Pitt Street Methodist Church. Preacher, Rev. W. Walker. 2YA—St. John’s Presbyterian Church. Preacher, Rev. J. R. Blanchard. 3YA— Oxford Terrace Baptist Church. Preacher Rev. L. A. North. 4YA —Central Mission Methodist Church. Preacher, Rev. G. B. Hinton. MONDAY, DECEMBER 22nd. The Clarion Quartet of IYA will be heard in light vein this evening. Miss Bervl Smith and Mr Duncan Black will make a speciality of a humorous number entitled, “O’Sarah! O’Enery!” Miss Maisie Carte-Lloyd, eTocutidniste, will he heard, with Miss Lillian Lugton, in comedy numbers,
The vocal solos by Miss Gwlgdys Edw'ardes at 2YA will feature two compositions by an Australian composer, Phyllis Campbell, and two numbers by Besley, a new English comnoser. The other vocalists will he Miss Dorothy SpiUer, Mr Eric Rishworth and Mr Ham’ Matthew, whose numbers will include a Negro Spiritual and the famous “Five Eyes” (by Gibbs). Miss Zena Jupp and Mr Errol Muir will act two skwetches. The programme will include a brief organ recital by Mr H. Temple White and piano solos by Miss Madge Darling. Derry’s Military Band (under Mr J. Scott), will provide 3YA’s programme for this evening, assisted by the Valencia Quartet and the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio.
It is over two months since the Dunedin Orphans’ Club presented a programme at 4YA, and listeners will he pleased to welcome the reappearance of this excellent body of entertainers to-night. Thei club i s one of the largest of its kind in the Dominion, and its array of talent is excellent. A popular programme containing brass quartettes, instrumental solos of various kinds, vocal quartettes, duets, solos and choruses, in addition to elocutionary items, will be presented.
