High honours were gained by Stuart Gordon, an inmate of the Jubilee Institute for the Mind at the recent examination conducted in Auckland by the 'trinity College of Music. He gained 90 per cent of the possible nwrlM in the , intermediate section (pianoforte), which was not only the highest marking 'for the Pet-ember examination but higher than the best marks gained at the examination held in June. As a result of his outstanding achievement he received the silver honours medal for his grade. Gordon, who is 18 years of age, has been blind from birth, and has been at the Institute since 19*21. He not only plays the piano but is proficient with the pipe organ, saxophone, clarinet, and several other instruments. He is a member of the Institute’s full band as well as of the jazz dance hand.

Two cricket teams of -Canterbury boys who are on a tour of the West Coast arrived by train from Greymouth last evening. To-day they are playing local teams, one at the Mental Hospital grounds and the other on Cass Square.

The dance in All Saints' Hall last evening in aid of the St. Saviour Orphanages was a great success. There was a captial attendance and splendid music was supplied by the Melody Orchestra. A good supper was provided by the ladies’ committee. The proceeds of the function will he spent locally and suitable gifts will be sent away to cheer the orphans this Christmas tide.
