WELLINGTON, December 19.
“I was wondering whether I ought to order you to be flogged, as part of your sentence.' Jt is what you thoroughly deserve, but I have decided not to do that. - I -am going to inflict a • long term of imprisonment. This sort or thing cannot he tolerated in a community.” >
These remarks were passed • by Justice Ostler to-day in sentencing William William’s, a young man to six years with Hard labour for'raping a girl of sik at Masterton. The -Judge described the 1 offence as particularly brutal, .callous-and violent, and added the prisoner whs a man of bad character with convictions for theft against; him.
