THE MAWSON EXHIBITION. (Australian Press Association) (Received this day at 1.5 p.rn.) SYDNEY, December 19. Sir Douglas Mawson reports :—After leaving MacQuarrie we took soundings in the vicinity of Bishop Clerk Islets, which rising from the MacQuarrie submarine shelf constitute a danger to shipping. The Discovery .was stoun tossed for several days rendering a search of the elusive emerald island impracticable. The ship at last emerged from the mists into a clear sea flecked with broken ice. We are in touch with the whaler Clark Ross, which has coal for the Discovery, whose personnel are all well despite the temperatures which are generally below freezing point. MELBOURNE, December 19. The parties have compromised their differences in the Unemployment Relief Bill, which passed the Assembly. The maximum tax on incomes of two thousand .sterling or over will be three and a quarter per cent. The stamp tax on wages was increased from a penny to four pence in the pound.
