LONDON PRESS VERSION.

(United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. J

LONDON, December 17

“The Times,” Madrid correspondent, reviewing j,)x- situation in Spahi says“ Obviously the military side of tlie revolutionary movement lacks conviction. The senior officers are trustworthy, but the juniors, are largely republican, while the rank and file are divided. The conscripts are as reliable as are conscripts anywhere, but there is a class of soldier who pays the ■ Government for a choice as to where they are to he stationed, thus creating a privileged and influentia* yeomanry, who are interested in politics, and many of whom are republians. Tlie strike is now in full swing hut it is now conducted in calm good humour. The transport workers are not involved in the strike. The Reservists are now staffing the railways King Alfonso inspected the artillery of Engineers at the Carahanchei Camp, and lie extolled their soldiery discipline. The Bank of Spain has opened a National Subscription for a testimonal for the Civic Guard. The Minister of the Interior has admitted that the agitation affects 23 out of 50 of the provinces, while the general strikers are in the principal towns in ten of the provinces. These are purely political.
