RADIO PROGRAMME

(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) THURSDAY,' DECEMBER 18th.

The Asquiths lias' been engaged by 1\ A to give one of their delightful drawing-room entertainments this evening. These two artists are always very popular with listeners. Mr Frank Campbell will sing a group of ballads, including “In the Gloaming.” The IYA Orchestral Octet has chosen , some fine numbers for the evening’s programme, including “the Merchant of Venice Suite,” by Rosse. A piano and orchestral number is to be given by Miss Dorothea Ryan and the orchestra. The Band of the Ist Battalion Wellington Regiment will give a studio concert at 2YA. The band on this occasion will be playing under a new conductor. Bandmaster R. A. Campbell having been appointed to succeed the Late Captain Shardlow. An interesting and varied programme will be presented. The conductor will plhy as a cornet solo, “Out of the Silence.” The Sketchers, a new combination, will contribute tw T o light sketches to the programme. A newcomer to the microphone this evening will he Miss Mary Holmbs (soprano) winner of the Winthfop Rogers Gold Medal, and runner-up for the Mrs E. R. ’Myers Scholarship at the recent Wellington Competitions; Novelty instrumental numbers will be given 'by. Mrs Mildfen Kenny’s Steel Guitar Trio.

The programme from 3YA will bo operatic—classical and will be contributed by.'Madame Gower Burns, Miss 'Alice Vinsen-, Mr E. Rogers and Mr J. Filer, singing solos, duets and quartets in a well selected programme of musical gems. Mr Harold Beck (’cellist! and the Christchurch Broadcasting; Trio will play. From 9.30 till 11 p.m. the Bailey-Marston Dance Orchestra will provide a session of dance music.

Liza Lehmann’s song cycle, “The Daisy Chain” will be one of the featured attractions of 4YA’s programme this evening. Tt will be snng by the Harmonists —Miss Mae Matherson, Miss M. Green. Mr H. A. Johnston and Mr S. Falconer. The same artists will also sing a number' of miscellaneous songs, including “Irish Folk Song,” “Tf You’re in Love You’ll Waltz.” “Captain Mac,” and “Oft in the Stilly Night.” An instrumental quintet will provide several selections abd waltz tunes.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19th. TYA’s programme this evening will be a specially novelty pot-pourri entitled, “Just Our Way,” to be given by a party of entertainers known as “The Passers-By” under the direction of Mr J. F. Montague. This will be a programme of novel and delightful surprises and listeners can be assured of a very bright and intertainiiig programme. Novelty items will be much in evidence on 2YA’s programme. Miss Gretta Stark will be heard in solos from musical comedies, Mr Billy Hart will contribute a group of popular songs at the piano, whistling solos will be featured by Mr E'. T. Feeney, aria the humorous portion of the programme will be Mr Lawrence Searle’s contribution. Mr Lad Haywood, a popular instrumentalist, will play a group of mandola and mandolin solos. The Orchestrina under Signor A. P. Truda, will play incidental music. A varied programme comprising items by the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio, Mrs Ralph, Sierokowski (soprano), Mrs A. E. G. Lyttle (mezzosoprano), Mr Douglas Suckling (tenor), Mr J nek Blair (songs at the piano), Miss Irene Morris (violinist©), Mr A. Hodgson (banjolinist) and Mr L. T. J. Ryan (humorous reciter.) A saxophone hand playing bright snappy numbers will be a feature of 4YA’s concert. A recital in Irish dialect will bo given by Miss E. M. Holland. Mr J. Moore Wilson will provide piano novelties. Miss Lettie de Clifford (soprano), Miss G. Burt (contralto) Mr G. Crawford (tenor) and Mr Jack Clark 'baritone) will be the singers.
