BOLD HEAD SALE. On Saturday last at the above yards W. Jeffries and Go. held their summer sale of stock. The yarding comprised 157 head of cattle and half a dozen horses. The attendance was hardly as good as hitherto and competition was irregular throughout the fixture. There was a noted absence of confidence in the future ot the cattle market and only the best class of steers were sought after. Young cattle and “has been” cows were, not wanted. Of the total yarding nearly half were passed. The following sales were made: —
For Treinbath Brora. 1 stag at £2 17s 6, 1 cow at £3, 3at £5. For W. Henderson 3 steers at £5 17s, 1 at £4 ss, 2 yearlings at 500, 1 cow at £2 14s fid. For J. Davidson 2 dry cows at £4 7s, cow and calf at £3 9s. For W. Elcoek 6 steers at £6, 2 cows at £5 7s 6d, 1 heifer at £6. For G. Linklater 5 yearling Jersey heifers at £4 110 m, 2 at £3. 7s fid, 2 at £3, 1 steer at £6 3s, 1 cow at £5 12s, 1 heifer at £4. For H. C. C. Hondo 13 steers at £8 12s 6d, 1 runner at £3 ss, 1 steer at £5 15s, 1 heifer at £8 12s 6d, 12 yearling steers at £3 12s ,od, .4 heifers' at £2 12s. For J. Douglas 2 steers at £8 Is. For 1. Ekock 1 steer at £7 10s, cow and calf at £2. For J. Manern 1 spring cart gelding £lB.
ARAHURA FAT STOCK SALE. At this fixture held yesterday the total yarding comprised 131 head of cattle which were submitted to a somewhat smaller attendance of buyers than usual. r lhere was a marked decline in prices for beef which dropped from 20s to 25s per head for all claisses of cattle, the explanation of this being the recent drop at Addington and the fact that most of the steer beef offered was too heavy foi summer trade. A small entry ot Christmas lambs came forward and sold quite well. The range of prices was as follows:—Heavy ox beef 38s to 425, medium quality 40s to 455, heifei beer 35b to 41s 6d, cow beef 25s to 335..

The last sale of the year will he held on next Monday, 22nd December, at Araluira., and the first sale in the New Year is fixed for Monday, 12th January, 1931.
Messrs AT. Houston and Co. report: -Our entry at yesterday’s sale at the above yards consisted,of 26 head of fat cattle, which -were, offered to a smaller attendance of buyers than usual. The recent drop in prices at Addington was reflected on the local market and butchers. were only prepared to. operate on very reduced limits, with the result that prices were down fully 40s per head on those of the previous sale. Good ox and heifer beef realized from 37s to 40s per hundred and cow beef from 25s to- 30s.
