PARDONED

Kourad Kruse of Detmold, who was sentenced in 1883 to life penal servitude on a charge of poisoning his mother has been pardoned in consequence of a confession by the real murderer in America. Kruse, who is now seventy, was released in 1918 after thirty-five years in prison. His family made repeated efforts to get the case retried, but without result. It seems the murderer wished to marry the woman in order to secure the husband’s prosperous business. His advances were repulsed, so he poisoned her.

From motives of vengeance, when Kruse was suspected, the real murderer mivc false" evidence at the trial, and then migrated to America where he made a death bed confession which enabled the belated pardon of Kruse.
