INDIAN CONFERENCE

PRELIMINARIES STILL. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 9. Satisfactory progress was made by the sub-committees of the Indian Conference. Hie Burma sub-committee lias now authorised the Chairman (Mr Russell) to embody its conclusions m a report for presentation to the main committee next week. It favours the resolution asking the British Government to make a public announcement regarding the acceptance of the principle of separation, and confirmed the earlier conclusions on the protection of minority interests, finance and defence.

The Federal Structure Sub-Commit-tee is neagjy ready to begin the discussion of the constitution, the character of • its powers, and the responsibility of the Executive, and to draft a report.

The Provincial Constitutional subcommittee is being drawn up. 1
