WOOL MARKET
NO IMPROVEMENT. v ßy Telegraph—Per Press Association WELLINGTON, December 8. There was no improvement in prices at to-day’s wool sale here, which was mia.rked by heavy late withdrawals and frequent passings. There was animated competition within very restricted limits. Attractive lines were keenly sought, but the price was usually between 4|d and 6d. Very seldom was much bidding above 7d. . The highest price was for a few lots of merino, eight bales of merino selling at 10d, while eleven bales of super comebacks feyire made 10Id. Other Marlborough lines of similar descriptions made 9£-d. These riools were superfine and were purchased by local mills. The quantity catalogued was 18,040 bales. The withdrawals . reduced this to about 6,500. The quality was below the average, showing signs of the unfavourable winter. The held-over wool opened up stale in looks.- The buying was more general than at the earlier sales. Bradford and Canada were the principal buyers of super crossbreds. There was some buying by Japan, and. it is said that some wool was taken on behalf of Russia.
