For the remainder of the financial year, the Education Department will not pay subsidies on contributions raised to aid the funds of school libraries, according to advice received by the Canterbury Education Board, on Thursday. Fire totally destroyed a six roomed dwelling owned iby Mr T. E. Coates, and occupied by Mr Irwin Barrow, at Kaiata shortly .after 11 o’clock lasl night. The blaze was a big one, tlireflection in the sky being visible from Grey mouth. The occupants, Mr and Airs Barrow, had rather a lucky escape with their family of five young children, Mr Barrow getting out with only shirt and panti; on.
