A SERIES OF CHARGES

WELLINGTON, December 3

A \series of thefts from premises by night, carried lout- with the aid of a motor-car skeleton, keys and stolen implements, was admitted in the Police Court to-day by tjwo electricians, Robert Meynell Calvarrt and William Gladstone Thoms, 'each aged twenty-one. They were cornu lit ted for sentence. The charges !to which Thoms and Robert Calvert 'pleaded guilty were ten of breaking and] entering and theft and three of the theft of money and goods. William Francis Calvert, aged twenty three, a carpenter, denied five charges ! df breaking, entering and theft and one charge I 'of receiving goods knowing them ,to have hjien dishonestly obtained. \ He was edmmitted for trial. The total vague of the money and goods'concerned was £437 10s fid.

All three were remanded to appear at Pahiatua on? December 5 on a joint charge of breaking and entering and the theft of moiiey and goods valued at £252 4s ■ 4Ad. I Detective M/lennan gave evidence thatvon November 18, in company with Dete'ctive Jarrold, he arrested Thoms and Robert CaTy-ert at their homes in Petone and William Calvert at his home in Eastbourne. In the possession of each accused was found a quantity of the goods’.that ihnd been stolen from different shops, j Thoiys and Robert Calyerfc’admitted the offences, but William, Calvert said) in respect o'f the charges before the court that the goods in his possession ■ had been given, to him by the two other accused.
